Sunhoney Stone Circle is a 27 metre diameter recumbent stone circle comprising 11 standing stones and a tilted recumbent stone with 31 cup marks, the stone now in two pieces, one large and one small.
One of the standing stones also carries a cup mark.
Excavations here in 1865 revealed cremations.
There is a 7 metre elevated platform in the centre of the circle.
Nowadays the circle seems to stand in a low bank and it is thought possible that some restoration has occurred at some time in the past.
One of my favourite stone circles in Aberdeenshire area. Beautiful enedgy, raw, magnificent and peaceful at the same time.
